Join members of the Environmental Action Team in a new series of interactive presentations at noon in the sanctuary on the second Sunday of each month in 2026. Bring your curiosity and concerns. Dates and topics shown below.
January 11: Emerging Trends and Surprising Solutions
To kickstart our series, let's hear about some new and exciting climate solutions. While there is no silver bullet to solve the climate crisis, we do have all of the solutions we need - and some are sure to inspire. Dave Hunter, a local RegenerateBC facilitator, will walk us through ideas such as clear glass solar panels, microgrids, aquaculture, green bricks, and more! Included will be an update on carbon capture and storage - is it even possible?
February 8: Taking Local Action or "How can we actively participate in greening our communities?"
Working at the municipal level is one of the most effective way to take action for climate and biodiversity. From participating in local projects to engaging with municipal staff and local elected officials, getting involved is easier than you might think. To illustrate this, we'll hear stories about recent initiatives taken in our local communities to increase green space - itself a climate and biodiversity solution offering benefits ranging from carbon sequestration to improved mental health.
March 8: Food and Stuff: Impactful Individual Actions
Combined, food and other consumer items account for 60% of our individual ecological footprints. Ways to be more sustainable around food include reducing waste and increasing the amount of plant-rich food we eat. You've heard of the "3 Rs" (reduce, reuse, recycle) - these are great! Let's add re-purpose and re-think to "stuff." We're planning a participatory event involving food samples and stuff sharing. Stay tuned for more details.
