Service to Others
Beyond our Congregation

Unitarians and Universalists have a long history of living their values by service to others, taking actions to better our society and protect the planet.  Four of our Eight Principles speak directly so such issues, and inspire us to participate actively in programs of social justice, environmental stewardship, and promotion of greater peace and understanding throughout the world.

environmental action team

Our Environmental Action Team:

  • Offers informational programs on the Climate Emergency and other environmental concerns and solutions

  • Promotes opportunities for action and advocacy on the personal, congregational, municipal, provincial, and national levels

  • Coordinates volunteering, both at NSUC and in partnerships with other environmental groups active in the community

  • Recommends monthly Outreach recipients working on environmental justice, publicizing their activities to the congregation during their featured time slots

SOCIAL Jusice Team

North Shore Unitarians have ongoing relationships with many worthy organizations, both at home and abroad. Our involvement with these groups changes over time, depending on the passions of individuals in our congregation.  Our efforts include fund-raising, working on non-profit Boards, and hosting special events. Many of our members volunteer directly with the organizations we support.

Our Social Justice Team explores, promotes, and actively lives the Eight Unitarian Principles within our larger community.  We develop projects that offer hands-on participation, such as delivering items to the food bank, organizing suppers for the homeless at local shelters, collecting donations for Christmas Hampers for families in need, and collecting donations to support other local non-profit organizations.

monthly Outreach recipients

Each month, 100% of our Sunday morning offering basket (unless otherwise noted) is donated to a nonprofit organization whose mission is in line with our values. Watch our Home page for details about the current Outreach Recipient.
