Curious About Membership?
Welcome!
Everyone is welcome to attend Sunday Services at NSU and participate in any or all of the programs and events that take place. Get to know us — and help us get to know you. If NSU feels like a good fit for you, you may want to learn more and connect with us more deeply . . . and that’s when Starting Point and official Membership may be right for you. This page explains more about what this means . . .
What is Starting Point?
One or more times each year, we offer Starting Point sessions (also called “Deepening Connections”), which allow new people to learn more about Unitarian Universalism in general, as well as specifics about our NSU community. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and connect with some of our long-term members, as well as others who are new-ish to NSU.
We encourage everyone to attend Starting Point before signing our Membership Book as it lays the foundation for helping you to understand more fully what Membership means, including the intentions of membership.
Sign up for the Starting Point waitlist HERE, so you’ll be notified when we offer our next session.
What are the Intentions of Membership?
Become a Member of our congregation is a meaningful step in one’s journey, worthy of careful thought and deliberation. Because of this, we ask prospective members to have the following Intentions of Membership:
to take part in the life of our community;
to make attending Sunday services a priority;
to act in service both within and beyond our NSU community;
to make an annual financial contribution (called a “pledge”) to NSU;
to make efforts to better understand and live by the principles and values of Unitarian Universalism, as you understand them to be.
If you can affirm these intentions, we welcome you to officially become a member of our congregation.
How do I officially become a member?
You become an official Member of NSU by signing our Membership Book in the presence of a Board Member.
how will i benefit from membership?
Formally joining our congregation deepens your belonging in and commitment to our congregation, and to our wider Unitarian Universalist tradition. Members in good standing enjoy the following privileges:
The knowledge that you are helping us fulfill our mission of helping people to live with more depth, meaning and purpose.
The right to vote in all congregational meetings after you’ve been a member for a year or longer.
The opportunity to serve as an elected member of our Board of Trustees.
